Projects
Operation School Bell®
Operation School Bell began fifty years ago as a one-woman effort by Ruth Ann Montgomery to provide clothing to disadvantaged children; it is now the signature national philanthropic program for Assistance League. Wichita’s Operation School Bell recently reached a milestone of having provided clothing to 50,000 children in our public school system. Unified School District 259 school social workers submit clothing requests for children.

These students receive new coats, hats, gloves, jeans/pants, shirts, (or school uniforms), and undergarments.  Vouchers for new shoes are issued; toiletry kits and backpacks are supplied as needed Operation School Bell has clothed 3,325 students during the 2007-2008 school year at a cost of over $110,000.

Assault Survivor Kits®
Assault Survivor Kits provide seasonal clothing and toiletry kits to sexual assault survivors through the Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center.  The SANE/SART (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner/Sexual Assault Response Team) nurses at Via Christ-St. Joseph Campus distribute the clothing and toiletry items to the survivors.

Bear Hugs
Our Bear Hugs program distributes cuddly bears to sexually abused children.  It helps a child to have a bear to hug while being interviewed and examined by the SANE/SART nurse or staff.
